A Few Honest Notes Before You Cook
I’ve test-cooked every recipe in this roundup in my own kitchen, almost always on a Sunday afternoon, with the same 5-quart Dutch oven I bought from Target in 2020 for $45 (it’s still the cheapest piece of equipment I own that I use the most). A few honest takes:
- The Boursin pasta deserves the hype. The marketing is annoying, the recipe is genuinely excellent.
- Skip the gluten-free pasta swap if you don’t need it. Chickpea pasta is fine, but it has a texture that some kids will reject on sight.
- The taco pasta and the cheeseburger pasta are both kid bait. If you have a picky eater, start there.
- Long noodles for meal prep are a bad idea. I keep trying, I keep regretting it. Stick to short shapes.
